Ah LOVE is in the air. And if you’re anything like me the warmth and excitement of the year’s most romantic holiday fills you with butterflies, passion and an overwhelming sense of… Oh my God, I forgot to buy a Valentine’s Day gift! In this episode I teach you how to make a truly memorable valentine’s day gift for your significant other that’s low on cost but high on thoughtfulness. Keep it here! [Music] Getting the right Valentine’s day gift for someone can be difficult so to help you I’m gonna show you what I did last year for Lady Wake.
It’s a gift designed to make the special person in your life feel special, make you feel clever, and–perhaps most importantly–justify your hobby to him/her. Not that we need to justify it–We do what we want! Just kidding babe. Love ya!

I walked into the store and it’s a like, I dunno, a Valentine’s grenade went off. [Garbled: Fire in the hole!] Aisle after aisle of derivative, cheesy, repetitive junk. Scouring the racks. Too trite. Too dull.
Too effing stupid. Someone as special as my wife deserves the perfect card.https://rappler.com/technology/features/how-to-set-up-facebook-dating-profile And just when I was about to give up, just when I thought there was absolutely no answer I saw it staring at me in the face. The perfect Valentine’s day card from me, The Gentleman Wake, purveyor of content, curator of art and connoisseur of playing cards, wasn’t a card at all.
It was a deck of them. So here’s what you need. A deck of playing cards. Can be new or used.
A plain old bicycle rider back deck, preferably red, works perfectly and is of course really inexpensive. You also need a set of fine tipped colored sharpies (at the very least a red and black one). And that’s it. If you have time, or an extra one lying around, getting a deck of blank riderbacks or a gaff deck, like this one recently released from the Bocopo playing cards company would be great as well. The next part is where it pays to be creative.
But believe me, you don’t have to be William Shakespeare to come up with the right words. A little bit of drawing skill helps too, but again, even stick figures will do in a pinch. You’re going to take the 52 cards in a deck of standard playing cards and customize each one to include one of–perhaps–52 reasons why your partner is the one for you. Now you can be silly or funny.
Or you can just be heartfelt or sincere. Anything really goes. As a word of advice though, you do want to tailor your message to fit the recipient.

Obviously you can be more personal and open, and perhaps romantic with a spouse than you can be with somebody you’re just getting to know. In that case you might wanna be more ‘cute’. The truth is less is more in some cases. So just… you know… keep that in mind. For instance, the 2 of hearts is perfect for letting them know they are your soulmate if applicable.
The ace of diamonds can EASILY be modified into the diamond on a engagement or wedding ring (if you’ve gotten that far in a relationship of course). The 10 of any suit makes for a great card for letting your Valentine know they are a perfect 10. The low number spot cards have a lot of space to write in personal thoughts or messages to your special someone. The queens and kings are obvious places to remind them how important they are to you.
If you have the gaff deck there are special cards in there that can also provide some fun opportunities for customization. At the very least blank cards which can provide you with even more space to express yourself if you need it. Also a blank canvas for a more elaborate piece of custom artwork works too.
Another cool possibility is jumbo playing cards which are basically the size of normal greeting cards. And you can get pretty creative with those as well. Basically you just have to channel your inner designer.
So easy! Anyway, be as creative as you can be and when you give your valentines their deck you should feel confident that they’ll love it because it will be 100% made for them. On top of that they will know how personal it is to you, how perfect a gift coming from you, after all you are a collector of playing cards.
